Assistant Conductor Application and Guidelines

The position is for a one year period, renewable upon successful previous season and re-audition.

The Assistant Conductor role is reserved for current students at Yale College who have studied conducting previously at Yale or outside recognized institutions.

Due to the active and varied duties of the position, please note that the Assistant Conductor role is not open to beginning conductors.

The selection process includes an application, brief interview, and live audition with the YSO.

All decisions are final concerning the audition results. If no suitable candidate is found, the position may be left unfilled.

• Understudying all YSO programs.
• Conducting the YSO Halloween Show and overseeing music selection in conjunction with the Halloween Show Music Coordinator and Production team.
• Conducting any supplementary activities as required, including but not limited to sectional rehearsals, composer readings, short MainStage works, and overseeing part bowings.

Finalists will be invited to a brief interview in the Director’s Office, followed by a short audition with the YSO. The details will be communicated directly with successful finalist candidates.
